What is the difference between the TCF IRN and the TCF Tout Public?
The TCF IRN is specifically designed for administrative procedures in France: residence permit, resident card, naturalisation. It can only be used for these official purposes. The TCF Tout Public is a universal version, accepted by universities, employers and various organisations, for all types of projects. Both exams have the same basic format, but their use is different.
TCF results are valid for 2 years from the test date, for all versions: IRN, Tout Public, Canada and Québec. Make sure your certificate will still be valid when you submit your administrative application.
Yes. There is no limit to the number of attempts. However, you must respect a minimum period between two sessions, usually 30 days. Our schools offer French lessons and evening courses to help you prepare and support you towards success.
The TCF assesses all CEFR levels from A1 to C2, so there is no prerequisite to register. However, depending on your procedure, a minimum level may be required: B1 for a multi-year residence permit, B2 for French nationality, and B2 or C1 for certain university or immigration programmes.
Use the selector at the top of the page: choose your city and your type of TCF, then click “Book my session”. You will be redirected to the booking and payment form for the relevant centre. A confirmation email will be sent to you with your official exam notice and all details.
The price varies depending on the type of TCF and the tests selected, whether compulsory or optional. Check the detailed page for each exam to find the exact prices. Prices are set in accordance with France Éducation International fee scales.
Yes, but only in its IRN version. The TCF IRN is one of the exams officially recognised by the French Ministry of the Interior to certify your level of French as part of a naturalisation application. A minimum B2 level is required. Always check the specific requirements with your prefecture.
Yes. These are two different versions. The TCF Canada is designed for procedures with IRCC, while the TCF Québec is intended for permanent immigration to Québec.
